Well, the tree is up and decorated and the house is as decorated as it’s going to get – lots of fresh greens (cuttings from the bottom of our tree), pinecones picked up on my walks, red bows tied on everything and a sprinkling of things I’ve collected over the years. I just love it when the house feels all Christmas-y! It lightens my spirit – even some of the household chores don’t seem quite so tedious when you can sing along to Christmas music.

So now it’s on to finishing up the last minute shopping, wrapping and then, next week-end, baking. I’ve been noticing lately, that in spite of all the busyness outside, there seems to be a calm, peaceful feeling here at home that I’m really enjoying – the cozy feeling the lights on the tree give me, being able to sit quietly at night with a hot cup of tea – the simple things. I really do feel blessed.

I hope you’re enjoying the season as much as I am. Are you all set for Christmas or are you still busy with all the last minute preparations? No matter what point you’re at, I hope you’re taking some time for the simple, comforting things that make this time of year special.

Wishing you peace and joy.

Susan
XOXO

Susan, I love the plant in your first picture. I have one just like it and it’s the only variety I haven’t managed to kill yet; that and ivy. Your home looks warm and inviting … wish I could stop by for a chat and a cup of tea by that wonderful fire of yours.

Hi Sue – That plant on my hall table recently replaced any ivy that had seen better days. The current plant seems to like the location so far.

Very beautiful, and festive decorations! Peaceful, yes…that’s what is best! I am so glad you are getting some for yourself during the hustle and bustle of the holidays. I am also amazed at Tasha Tudor…she is such an inspiration to all of us women. Her and Grandma Moses! :)

Thanks for visiting my blog, and for your sweet comments. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

      Enjoy!

Thank you, Gloria – So glad you stopped by! I still have a few things to do, but I’m enjoying it all. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas too!

Like others have commented – your pictures and posting is in itself very calming. Every year I aim for that and don’t seem to get it completely accomplished. We partially put up the tree and the inside decor today and will finish up tomorrow. However, as I put things away, I’m thinking I will cut way back on what I set out. Your simpleness is beautiful and I can see myself enjoying that. Thank you.

I’m taking the slow route this year. It seems everything I do takes forever but I know it will all get done – well, the most important things anyway. Thanks for stopping by, Darlene.

Oh I hear you on that – there’s a reason why I don’t post a lot of photos of my own home. With the baby now, especially, things are a giant perpetual mess! And it’s way more fun to snuggle a baby than clean :)

Much is calm and bright in my neck of the woods, too, Susan. Thanks for inviting us to visit you through this lovely post. I still have much I want to do, knitting and writing and wrapping, but I am enjoying the adventure along the way. Wishing you happy days. xx

Your home looks festive and welcoming! Sitting by the tree lights and sipping a mug of something warm is one of my favorite holiday blessings, too. Thanks for the blog visit and comment <3

Your decorations all look so lovely. We have ours all done too, cards written, most of the shopping done. The cakes are baked but I still have to make mince pies and maybe shortbread.

I remember mince pies from years ago. They were always on the holiday dessert table but have faded away over the years. Shortbread is definitely one of my favorites. I may have to add that to my baking list this year.
Hope you enjoy your holiday season over in Ireland, Gillian.

I Truly love this time of year with all the special decorations that to lend to a special feeling while at home! There is nothing better than having that cozy comfy feeling while enjoying being at home! You are so right about the hustle and bustle outside of our sanctuary. Our homes should be a place of rest from the world… I love the blanket laying across your ottoman did you make that? Thank you for visiting my blog have a great day

Hi Eva – yes, I made that afghan – I think it was about 100 years ago. And, I totally agree with you that our homes should be a place of rest.
      Enjoy the holidays!

Your home looks beautiful and very Christmassy! I love your tree! I am still busy preparing for Christmas, and I have a few more little gifts to buy. Christmas really snuck up on me this year. I must remind myself to start earlier next year. I don’t think I’ll get around to sending out cards, maybe New Year’s cards, we will see. Enjoy this wonderful time of year!

Christmas sneaks up on me every year, Julia. Maybe it’s time to sit down and write down everything you need to do and then go back over the list and try to eliminate whatever isn’t terribly important – the cards can wait until next year. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas.

Thank you, Amy. That pillow is one of my favorites. I’m still planning to make a couple of pillows for the living room chairs but haven’t gotten to it yet. I’m not making myself crazy – there’s always next year!

How cute with the pup looking at the tree. I think I will leave out lights and glittery things up until spring, they are so nice on grey winter days.

Hi Susan, Your tree looks so pretty, we have decorations up but I still need to do buy some presents and food. Luckily my last day at work is tomorrow! I wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas. Sarah x

Thank you so much, Sarah. So glad you have some time off during this wonderful time of year. You’ll have time to finish up all the odds and ends. Merry Christmas to you.

Your home looks absolutely lovely, Susan…very festive yet calm and serene. I love that! Is your pup a Boston? My daughter has one and he is a darling, too.

I have a few tweaks to make in my decorating and then I’m going to call it a day. I’m going to write my Christmas cards in front of a fire and start my baking this weekend. Time for the really fun part of the holidays!

Thank you so much for your visit. Merry Christmas!

Hi Jane, yes, that’s Molly our sweet Boston terrier. When we moved, two years ago, we limited our ornaments and decorations to 3 large boxes – all part of scaling down to make life simpler.
I’ll be baking this coming week-end too. All last minute shopping and wrapping should be done by that time.
Have a very Merry Christmas. xo

You sound like me, Mona. I keep saying I’ll do it tomorrow too. It’s all okay, though – I don’t feel even a little stressed. It always seems to come together in the end somehow, doesn’t it?
      Have a wonderful Christmas!

I love that your house is your quiet and calm respite during the flurry of holiday craziness!! I get that feeling when I look at your pictures, I could just curl up next to your pup and stare at your pretty tree all day!! :)

Thanks so much, Kim. I think I made a conscious decision to maintain a calm, peaceful feeling and – so far so good!
      Have a very Merry Christmas.
