Hi, I’m Susan. Welcome to my simple, cozy spot on the web!

In 2012, I closed my successful home and gift shop on Long Island, packed my bags, and along with my husband, Bob, and sweet Boston Terrier, Molly, I moved to a beautiful little village in upstate New York.

I admit to having the occasional pang about closing my shop. More than just a store, my shop became my home away from home, a place where I welcomed customers who ended up feeling more like family. People came in just as often to share their joys and sorrows as they did to buy a gift or something lovely to brighten their homes.

When I started out, my shop was filled with many of my own creations—furniture I painted or refinished, hand-quilted and embroidered pillows–as well as quilts, pottery, jewelry, and more. But as the business grew, I no longer had time to make things myself, something I truly missed. And while I loved building relationships with my customers, I had less and less time to spend with my own family or to take care of myself.

So while it was sad to close up shop, after eleven years in business I was ready to set out on a new adventure. I absolutely love my new hometown. I can walk to my daughter’s home, the village shops and restaurants, and the local farmer’s market. Close by there are acres of farmland, horse and dairy farms, vineyards and spectacular mountain views.

Now I’m excited to share my new adventures with you. I’m writing about keeping life simple and easy and appreciating all the things that bring me joy—spending time with family and friends, cooking delicious meals, enjoying needlework, reading and sometimes just sitting quietly and counting my blessings.

I’m so happy you’re along for the journey!
