I’m home! (SIGH) After spending a week at the shore with my daughter and her family, I’m having trouble getting un-beached! I loved every minute of this glorious time, starting from the moment we pulled up to what would be home for the next 7 days.
We swam, we read, we ate (and ate some more) and we slept. Tough life, huh? I got up every morning, between 6 and 7, and took my coffee out to the deck where I was able to see the early morning sun peeking through the trees or glimpse the water which was across the street at the end of a long driveway. It was so calm and peaceful – the perfect way to start the day. After breakfast, we’d head off to the beach, where we’d float around for hours at a time. And, do the same thing again later in the afternoon – I never tired of feeling the warm sand under my feet or the sun on my body. I enjoyed watching families, from babies to grandparents, sharing the shade of their umbrellas, laughing, appreciating their surroundings.
And, boy, did that fresh sea air give me an appetite! Thick slices of artisan bread made into French toast with fresh fruit for breakfast, lots of ice cream, s’mores in the evening, lobster bisque, fresh from the farm corn on the cob slathered with butter. I’m thinking that lots of fruits, veggies and water better be on my eating agenda this week or I’ll be shopping for the next size up. But, it was vacation, and I don’t regret one single bite of all the goodies!
It was interesting that even though we had a tv, we really had no interest in watching. Instead we reveled in spending time with each other, laughing, playing in the water, sharing meals and each of us enjoying quiet time separately, reading or taking a walk. It was lovely to take a break from the news and all the political nonsense. It gave me pause to think about how I want to spend my time at home – a little less news and more time spent pursuing interests and new adventures.
I hope you’re all making the best of these last few days of summer. There’s still time to enjoy fresh veggies from the farmer’s market, a swim in the pool, lake or ocean, a delicious ice cream cone or a picnic lunch with friends or family. I’m planning on doing all of the above.
Have a wonderful week.
Susan xoxo
I’m “joining you” in the activities you listed above for these days sliding into Fall, Susan! It is no wonder you aren’t unbeached yet, considering the holiday at the beach you posted about so beautifully
In the Atlantic and the Pacific we have been blessed this summer! xx
We are truly blessed, Gracie, in so many ways. I know you vacation with your family too – always so much fun, isn’t it.
Sigh……the perfect vacation!! We all need ALOT less news and more times like this! This summer went so fast! But it was a beautiful one, soon it will be time for fall festivals and you’ll be back to baking deliciousness ❤️ Call you this week!
You read my mind, Laura – I was just thinking about baking. And you reminded me that I have a delicious loaf of zucchini in the freezer. Mmm. I was thinking of you and D because so many people where we were staying (Old Lyme) had kayaks – Sunny days and mostly calm water. It was so relaxing – a good reminder of what’s important in life. Love you.
what a lovely time you had!
and i’m so glad to hear you say you enjoyed every bite of what you ate!
that’s the secret to truly loving and receiving the ‘vacation’ benefits!!!
loved every picture! there is joy in each one. xo
Loved spending the week with my family, Tammy. And, I did enjoy eating everything! No regrets – life’s too short for regrets. xo
It looks beautiful..if not for the palm trees..it could be Maine:)
WE just had a weekend away w/ family also..no Wifi..I did not miss it one bit..:)
lol. We were in Old Lyme, CT, Monique. One of the beachfront homeowners had the palm trees shipped in for a special event. I know you enjoyed your time away with family as much as I did.
Old Lyme isn’t too far from us! The beach looks lovely, and not as rocky as many Connecticut beaches seem to be.
The home is darling Susan! No wonder you enjoyed every moment.
I actually baked today (apple turnovers), so I guess Fall is coming, whether I want it to or not!
xxx
Be still my heart! Homemade apple turnovers are one of my favorites. I find myself getting in the baking mood too, Doreen. Thank goodness for AC.
Sounds and looks perfect Susan . . .
I was perfect, Lynne. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Sounds like such a wonderful time you had!! Such an adorable little beach house!! I love the photo of the seagull looking at you out of the corner of his eye. : ) Welcome home!! xo

Hi Summer – I’m having fun going over all the photos again and again. Such a good time.
Wow… Wonderful vacation! It’s so soothing to watch the sun rise, floating in the water, no politics and especially great food lol. Love the pictures… That tent on the beach, did you set that up? how long did it take or was it there? great vacation. I love how after you feel a sense of renewal. When ever we came home from a vaca when the kids were younger, I would go through the house and start rearranging and moving things feeling a new vigor and some how after I started everyone suddenly disappeared?!?!? lol they did not want any part of it but it got done to my satisfaction without their moans and groans
I did a bit of that when I got home too, Eva. Trying to change things up a bit and thinking about Fall.
The tent was set up by one of the homeowners for an event – he also flew in the palm trees.
Flew in palm trees??? Wow I can guess that it was some kind of event!
What a perfect vacation, from beginning to end! And who says you have to un-beach? Carry that feeling with you every day!
I have carried that feeling with me, Julie. It’s kept a smile on my face all week long!
I so enjoyed reading this post Susan, your joy in your blissful holiday really shone through in every word. Beautiful photographs too. I think you are right about spending time away from news bulletins, I am always happier when I don’t listen to the news. X
There are definitely some advantages to “tuning out”, Penny. And removing yourself from the everyday while tuning in to mother nature, good company and a few good books.
Dear Susan … such a charming “home away from home” and it sounds like a perfectly wonderful week with family. I hope that you have a lovely weekend.
